The seven tests

- Lining: can you wipe a foundation spill off in one pass?
- Zipper: does it run smoothly around corners, with sturdy pulls?
- Empty weight: what does the bag weigh before you fill it?
- Warranty: how long, what it covers, and how you claim it.

1. Opening
The single biggest factor in whether you can find things. Bags that unzip around three sides and fold flat show everything at once; top-zip pouches show the top layer. 2. Empty shape
A bag that holds its shape when full tells you little. A bag that holds its shape when empty tells you the walls are doing the work, not your products. Set it on a table, unzipped and empty. If it folds in on itself, it will do the same in your suitcase as the trip goes on and the kit shrinks.
3. Your tallest bottle
Measure your tallest bottle before you shop, then compare it to the bag's interior height. A bottle that does not fit upright lies on its side, which is how pumps get pressed and caps work loose.
4. Lining
Something will leak eventually. A smooth, coated lining wipes clean; fabric lining absorbs. Light-colored linings also make dark items easier to see.

Read the terms, not the badge. How long does it last? Does it cover zippers and seams, or only "defects"? Do you need a receipt, photos, or a video? Is there a phone number and a street address, or only a contact form?
